Well it's August so it's festival time again. You can't walk down the High Street without having fliers thrust into your hand. I love this time of year. Anywhere and everywhere becomes a venue as seen in an article on the bbc website.
Since having kids I always try to catch some of the children's shows during the fringe. In the past we've seen Tall Stories version of The Gruffalo before it became a fringe regular. This year we have been to another fringe repeat show - Potted Pirates. We saw Potted Potter last year and it was excellent so took advantage of the preview show to see Potted Pirates. It tries to tell the history of pirates without mentioning Pirates of the Caribean but the pressure is too much and end up summarising the films in five minutes - husband loved the bit where one of the actors got hit with a long tentacle. The kids loved the reinactment of the defeat of the Spanish Armanda - Sir Walter Raleigh was a pirate - by throwing plastic balls onto the stage. I loved the pirate mega mix at the end.
Either see this or Potted Potter. Both are equally good. A word of warning these shows aren't really for the very young - too many loud noises.
